A little philosophical pontification:
We don’t know what will happen.
We all have feelings about it. No one’s feelings are wrong. It’s just how we feel. And those feelings are driving decisions and reactions. Fear is prevalent- fear about education failing our kids. Fear about people getting sick. Fear that we may not be able to work and take care of our kids. Fear that our students won’t be able to succeed in an online/remote only system. Fear that teachers won’t be able to figure it out. Fear that not meeting our students will make our jobs harder.
There is a lot of fear. But what about hope? What about faith?
We do not know what the outcome will be. We have never experienced any of these things. Sure we did remote learning for a short time, and no one was prepared. Sure we had to work from home and monitor our kids. Sure we had to figure out a new way to finish the semester on the fly, and it was hard. Sure we know people or don’t know people that have or had COVID.
We haven’t done this before. Is it possible that our kids might be ok? Is it possible that we will adjust? Is it possible that we might see the bright side and find joy in the little things? Is it possible that we may recognize that any decision made will not be the decision EVERYONE wants? Is it possible that we can do our best and try to make the best of the situation?
Be afraid. Feel the fear. Get angry. Be relieved. Feel anxiety or anticipation. We are all going to feel what we feel. The bottom line- we are in this together. We have no idea what the outcome will be. It could be great..it could disastrous. I like to stay on the side of hope and believe that we will do the best we can. I believe we will accept each other and how each person feels in the moment. I believe there is no right answer. I believe everything will be ok. Possibilities. It is time to start thinking of ways to make it work instead of ways that it won’t work. It is called the unknown. You can embrace or fight it. Either way, it is here.
